- Costa Rica: Avances en la reducción de la pobreza, desafíos que no cesanThe analysis of poverty in Costa Rica during the 2023-2024 period revealed a significant reduction in the monetary poverty rate, which declined from 21.8% to 18.0%, and in extreme poverty, which decreased from 6.3% to 4.8%. This progress was driven by an increase in per capita income, improvements in income redistribution, and a reduction in the cost of living. However, regional inequalities persist, with the Brunca region standing out as the only one without progress due to structural barriers. A decrease in multidimensional poverty was also achieved, although some regions, such as Huetar Norte, experienced increases in the incidence of deprivation. Cash transfers, particularly pensions, and employment have proven to be key tools for poverty reduction. However, specific regional strategies are needed to address inequalities and promote more inclusive and sustainable development.
