Abstract
This document analyzes different measures of international inflation and their influence on the domestic inflation. We found that these measurements have a statistical significant effect on the behavior of domestic inflation. Therefore the evolution of the international inflation must be considered when assessing the inflation target stated by monetary authority. The international inflation calculated using the weight of exports to different markets is the most relevant international inflation both in levels and in differences for the case of Costa Rica. Another element that the Central Bank should take into account when setting its inflation target is the fact that for the period 2001-2010 the different relevant measures of international inflation for Costa Rica lie in the range of 3% and 4%.

El presente documento realiza un análisis de la inflación internacional relevante para Costa Rica, la cual se define como aquella inflación internacional que posee efectos significativos sobre el comportamiento de la inflación interna y por tanto, debe ser considerada al evaluar las metas de inflación planteadas por las autoridades monetarias. Se encuentra que la inflación internacional medida de diversas formas es significativa e importante para explicar la inflación interna. A la vez se encuentra que la medida de inflación internacional más relevante para el caso costarricense, tanto en niveles como en diferencias, es aquella calculada utilizando como ponderador la proporción de las exportaciones costarricenses a los diversos mercados. Para el periodo 2001-2010 las diferentes mediciones de inflación internacional interanual se ubican en el rango entre 3% y 4%; elemento que el Banco Central de Costa Rica deberá considerar para la definición de su objetivo inflacionario.
